This course is designed to teach beginning filmmakers the fundamental basics of craft in directing film and video. Students should have some background in the technical aspects of camera operation and editing, as this is not a technical class. The class will examine how camera placement and staging impact the emotional beats of the story. It will also look at casting and directing actors, as well as briefly touch upon writing for the short form as it relates to directing. The final project will be to complete a 2-3 minute piece outside of class. Students wanting to participate in Directing I must complete Digital Filmmaking for Adults before registering for this course.
ASoF Certificate: ASoF Digital Video Certificate elective.
Who Should Attend: People who want to learn the entire cycle of making media, from concept to distribution, and those working towards
their ASoF Digital Video Certificate.
Prerequisites: Digital Filmmaking for Adults and Registered for the Digital Video Certificate Program
