BEAUTIFUL LOSERS Screenings at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown
Sunday, March 08, 2009, 10:00pm
Monday, March 09, 2009, 7:00pm

Aaron Rose, director of BEAUTIFUL LOSERS and Tobin Yelland, DP and Producer of the film, will be at the Austin School of Film on Sunday March 8th from 4-6pm for the next installment of our Artist Salon and Screening series.

BEAUTIFUL LOSERS celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural moments of a generation In the early 1990's a loose-knit group of like-minded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the "establishment" art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture.

Starring a selection of artists who are considered leaders within this culture, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling of personal stories. It speaks to themes of what happens when the outside becomes "in" as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artists and today's youth.

Featuring the artwork of Shepard Fairey, Aaron Rose, Barry McGee, Chris Johanson, Ed Templeton, Geoff McFetridge, Harmony Korine, Jo Jackson, Margaret Killgallen, Mike Mills, Deanna Templeton, Stephen Powers, Thomas Campbell and Cheryl Dunn.

ASoF greatly appreciates the generosity and time of the Alamo Drafthouse for its continued support of ASoF's Artist Salon & Screening Series!

This project is funded and supported in part by the City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division.
